Songs of Stone

A Summer series of oral history and heritage community conversations in partnership with Portland Museum, to share memories and stories of Portland stone and quarries, life in lived memory and the heritage of this unique natural and industrial landscape.

Stromatic Dance

Discover yourself as an artist and learn about our geological landscape of Isle of Portland, through Dancing.
A series of weekend workshops for young artists. Create with visuals, sound, sites and somatic movement.
The workshops will finish with an opportunity for a site specific scratch performance!
No dance experience necessary, come and explore.

Portland Poets Festival

Portland Poets festival with nature writing and poetry competition inspired by the words of Portland Poets - Skylark Durston, Bob Woolage, George Davey and Boy Male.

MUSIC
Songfest

Adults £10, Children under 16 £3
Join The Quangle Wangle Choir in a harmony singing workshop led by Dan Pate (Bristol Riff Raff Choir). All welcome, from seasoned singers to nervous newbies. Together we'll raise the roof, and feel joyful in the process! The afternoon will end with a short concert from local choirs.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Omniverse

Join The Jawbone Collective and explore Weymouth and Portland through the eyes and poetic voices of local marginalised communities. Through this unique project, we aim to amplify diverse perspectives and stories that have traditionally been underrepresented in our local narrative.
Two Workshops + Two Spoken Word Nights + Poetry Trail across Weymouth and Portland throughout August.

HERITAGE
Postcard to the King!
Deadline: July 10th 2025
Schools, children’s clubs or groups, and young creatives are invited to take part in a fun-filled creative competition hosted by Weymouth Museum. The competition is in celebration of our town’s royal seaside history and Portland and Weymouth Towns of Culture 2025!
Design a postcard to send to King George III, showing him how Weymouth has changed since his visits over 200 years ago!

Royal Dipping Day 2025

Join Weymouth Museum for a splendid day of royal revelry as we celebrate the grand tradition of seaside bathing that made Weymouth the first royal resort! Step back in time and have some fun!
This family-friendly event brings history to life with period costumes, fun games, and a chance to follow King George’s tradition of dipping a toe in Weymouth’s refreshing seawater!

Bside the Cside
an art trail with a difference

A 13-week summer treasure hunt celebrating the spirit of seaside holidays. Each week, original artworks created by local artist Charlie Pascoe inspired by local landmarks and traditions will be hidden in scenic public spots in Weymouth and Portland for families to discover and share online.
