Weymouth & Portland’s Towns of Culture 2025 programme has been awarded further grant funding by Arts Council England through the National Lottery Project Grants.

The project, titled ‘Reveal’ Portland & Weymouth Towns of Culture 2025, has been awarded up to £59,804 to support the next phase of this exciting initiative, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage and creative talent across the two towns.

The additional funding will help deliver a bold and inclusive year-long programme of events, performances, community projects and commissions, as well as supporting local artists, venues and cultural organisations.  With everything from food & drink to heritage, community groups to events falling under this programme, it’s set to be an incredible year for the two towns.

Director, Rocca Holly-Nambi, Towns of Culture Project Management from b-side comments: “The additional Arts Council funding will support the delivery of Reveal – an ambitious, inclusive year-long programme that celebrates the rich culture, creativity and community spirit of Portland & Weymouth.

This vital funding means we can bring our bold plans for 2025 to life – not only by introducing new cultural opportunities for local people to enjoy and take part in, but by shining a light on the incredible creative energy that already exists in our communities.

Launchpad commissions – designed to spark fresh ideas and support artists and communities – will soon be announced. As these projects take root, we expect to see a wave of cultural activity emerging across Weymouth and Portland, creating a vibrant patchwork of events, installations and experiences that will bring Towns of Culture to life in unexpected and inspiring ways.”

Councillor Carralyn Parkes of Portland Town Council and Councillor Alex Fuhrmann of Weymouth Town Council - nominated representatives on the Portland & Weymouth Towns of Culture project board said: “We’re thrilled that the Arts Council has recognised the strength and ambition of our plans with this generous funding boost. It’s a real vote of confidence in our communities and in what we’re working to achieve together through Towns of Culture 2025. This is another huge step forward – opening up even more opportunities for local people to get involved, take pride in their towns, and celebrate the creative energy that makes Portland & Weymouth so special.”

The funding has been awarded through the National Lottery Project Grants, supported by Arts Council England. This investment will help realise the ambitious goals of ‘Reveal’, ensuring that 2025 will be a landmark year for culture in Weymouth and Portland.
